Leroi Moore - Dave Matthews Band Sax Player Dead at 46
The second I pulled into a parking spot (en-route) to see Dave Matthews Band at Staples Center in Los Angeles last night, a friend pinged me with the news that LeRoi Moore had just died. LeRoi was Dave Matthews Band’s sax player for 17 years.
Staples Center staff were told late yesterday afternoon that the show may be cancelled. Matthews mentioned to the fans in-between songs that “It’s always easier to leave than be left.”
LeRoi Moore 1961-2008
“We are deeply saddened that LeRoi Moore, saxophonist and founding member of Dave Matthews Band, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, August 19, 2008, at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles from sudden complications stemming from his June ATV accident on his farm near Charlottesville, Virginia. LeRoi had recently returned to his Los Angeles home to begin an intensive physical rehabilitation program.” - DMBAND.COM
During the emotion-heavy show, Dave mentioned that the set list was comprised of ‘Roi’s favorite songs.

The date is wrong on the set list - it was Aug. 19th, not the 18th.
